☆1982年に公開され、観る者を恐怖のどん底に叩き落したSFホラー映画の金字塔「遊星からの物体X」。 20年以上の時を経て、その完全続編とも言える内容でゲーム化！

☆本作は、極寒の南極を舞台に未知の生命体が人間を襲い吸収、そして人間そのもの姿に擬態して…というふうに、人間がひとりひとり減っていく過程をリアルに描いていくアドベンチャーゲーム。物語は、映画の後日談となる。映画でもキーポイントとなった「恐怖」「信頼」「疑心」「狂気」などの心理的要素をゲームに生かした、ホラーファンにはたまらない内容となっている。

☆プレイヤーは救助隊員のひとりである主人公ブレイクに扮する。一緒に行動するほか隊員たちには「恐怖心」と「信頼度」のパラメータが設定されている。ゲームシステムは斬新で、これらのパラメータがゲームの展開を左右する。もちろん疑心と恐怖心が高いとチームのまとまりに欠け、良い結果は得られない。チームを率いるリーダーとしての判断力が要求されるというわけだ。

☆南極という閉鎖された空間で、つぎつぎと人間に擬態化していく生命体。いつクリーチャーに襲われるかもしれない恐怖感と、じつは隣にいる仲間はすでに乗っ取られているかもしれないという疑心が、しだいにプレイヤー自身を狂気へと駆りたてていく…。

☆Based on the same elements that made the movie so enjoyable--fear, suspense, and the possibility that your teammate might be infected--The Thing lets players creep into action with the help of several nonplayer characters (NPCs), whom you use to protect and aid your group. Using a core team of engineers, medics, and soldiers, players must manage the level of trust in, and fear of, you that these characters experience. They react to your actions and might betray you if they think you are the Thing. Conversely, you must constantly monitor which one of them might be infected. Other characters must trust you, but if they fear you, actions as drastic as coercion are necessary. For example, if a soldier doesn"t have confidence in you, you may have to put your gun to his head to convince him you"re not the Thing... and for his sake, he"d better believe.

☆ This game picks up where the classic horror film leaves off -- you play Captain Blake, a soldier sent to Antarctica to find the scientists who were the Thing"s first victims

☆ In 11 frightening levels, you"ll have to lead your team against disgusting monsters, from the scuttling head-spiders and human-like walkers to the gigantic multi-tentacled level bosses

☆ Trust is important here -- isolation and paranoia will get to your team, and any mistakes you make will turn them against you

☆ Control your squad and keep them calm as they face off with spectacular and horrible aliens who can do tremendous damage
